ENCOUNTER 6134
Talk Performance/Installation (2013)
“Grover is an interesting person, and he creates art that is intriguing” - The Sunday Guardian
“This work opens new avenues for ‘conversations’ to be considered as Art in the theatre” - Millennium Post
“Remember that nowadays every philosophy is lost in translation”
The 21st Century connected world has evolved to become so complex and layered, that it is no longer possible to perceive it though one single philosophical idea. How must we live today? Are we in the midst of a philosophical crisis? ENCOUNTER 6134 is a temporary production and showroom in which narrative formats for Useful and Non-Useful Philosophy will be tried out and presented. Between 10 to 20 individuals are paired with counterparts in another country/city, through a digital connection in real time. These individuals are experts in specialised knowledge (artists, managers, mothers, pastors, immigrants, scientists, security guards and so on). Each pair is asked to respond to a set of philosophical provocations in the form of questions, statements or statistics. In this way, ENCOUNTER 6134 produces a temporary community in which learning and unlearning, knowledge and non-knowledge, and strategies of living and surviving collide. This communicative, argumentative and performative act transform the collective gathering through discovery, surprise, chaos and non-comprehension, conjuring a reflection of our globalised world. Each show has a theme to discuss - Beauty, Time, Crisis, Death.
